Aaron Stinton
Aaron Stinton is a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) who is passionate about cultivating therapeutic relationships that benefit individuals seeking counseling for anxiety, depression, substance use, anger, life transitions, and trauma. He believes that every client has natural inherent wisdom and his role as a counselor is to help individuals reconnect with this sense of intuition. It is through relationships that habitual patterns take root, and it is through the therapeutic relationship that Aaron hopes to work with clients to move towards healing and growth.
Contemplative Psychotherapy is the foundation of the work Aaron does with clients. This involves practicing relational mindfulness in sessions to cultivate a greater awareness of what arises in the present moment. With this enhanced awareness of thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the body, clients can strengthen their ability to respond rather than react to stressful circumstances. Other therapeutic lenses that Aaron utilizes are development, attachment, and trauma. These therapeutic concepts underlie how the habitual patterns that can lead to mental health issues are established early in life or without conscious awareness. Adaptive behaviors adopted as infants and children often outlive their usefulness. Aaron strives to help clients recognize these habitual patterns with compassion and build skills to assist in decision making.
Aaron received his Master’s degree in Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology from Naropa University.
